Michael Cleveland has been a violinist with the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra since the
company's inception in the summer of 1975. He has served as Concertmaster, Associate
Concertmaster, Principal Second and section violin for 34 years. A graduate of Ithaca College,
Michael studied violin and conducting with Thomas Michalak and Jon Toth. He was the Music
Department Chairman for the Whitesboro Central School District for 9 years and taught strings
and orchestra there for 32 years, until his retirement in 2007. Michael holds a faculty position in
the Music Department of Colgate University, where he teaches violin and viola, and he is also
the Concertmaster of the Colgate University Orchestra..
