Linda Greene, flute, is a graduate of Syracuse University's School of Music, where she graduated cum laude in Flute Performance. Her teacher while at S.U. was John Oberbrunner, Principal Flutist (retired) of the Syracuse Symphony. Since then, her major teacher has been Deborah Coble, the current Principal Flutist of the SSO, with significant studies with Julius Baker (New York Philharmonic) and Harold Bennett (Metropolitan Opera).
Linda has held the position of Second Flute in the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra since 1996, after having performed as a substitute Flutist/Piccoloist for five years. Linda has been Piccolo/Third Flute in the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra since 2005, having been the first call substitute from 1995 through 2004. Since 1986 she has been Adjunct Music Faculty at Hamilton College, where she teaches private flute lessons and coaches woodwind ensembles.
Ms. Greene's prior orchestral positions include Principal Flute of the Syracuse Camerata Chamber Orchestra, Piccolo/Third Flute of the Binghamton Philharmonic, Second Flute in the Albany Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Flute of the Catskill Symphony Orchestra. She has also substituted with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Augusta (GA) Opera and Saint Cecilia Orchestra (Albany) amongst others. From 1993 through 1998 she was a member of the music faculty at State University of New York College at Oswego.
Linda is active in both new music and chamber music, having gotten her professional beginnings with the well known Syracuse Society For New Music, with whom she continues to perform, and continuing with The Musicians of Ma'alwyck (Scotia, NY) and the Woodwind Quintet Two of the Syracuse Symphony. She has also been a concerto soloist with the Syracuse Symphony and various small upstate NY orchestras.
Ms. Greene has recorded with several groups, including Glimmerglass Opera, Syracuse Symphony, Albany Symphony, Syracuse Society For New Music, and can be heard on other new music chamber recordings.
Linda's favorite non-musical activities include cross country skiing (ex racer!), road bicycling, hiking and working on the 160-year-old house she owns in Van Hornesville, eight miles from Glimmerglass' Alice Busch Opera Theater.
